Never ever use a common word as a password. Do not simply combine two or more dictionary words, even if you think they are rare. Many password crackers try combinations of dictionary words first. Dictionary words are too easy to guess. Try this link to find Worst Passwords of All Time. If you see your password on this list, I request you to change it immediately.
Use different passwords for different accounts. Don’t use the same password for several accounts, especially if they involve sensitive financial or other personal information. Why I am telling this because if someone knows your password for an account, they have your password for everything. When registering on sociable sites that ask for your email address, never use the same password as you do for your email account.
Change your password often. Although you are using strong password, it is better to change it periodically. Nowadays, Surferz World is full of hackers & crackers. I have learned how to keep my password.Thank you very much.
Nice WordPress blog, (I got referred here from whatsmypass.com) Thanks for the post.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked the post!
I think the most important thing to say about password would be “Stop using passwords”. indeed, most secure websites uses SSL certificates, which cypher the communication with a 128b key at the very least. On the other hand, you “secure” your accounts by using 6 to 10 characters passwords… Don’t you see my point yet ?
Instead of passwords, consider using passphrases. Most websites limits the size of your “passwords” to 256 characters, make a good use of it !
Since bruteforce attacks tries every combination possible of letters, the longer you passphrase the better, see? As for dictionnaries attacks, they will be totally screwed by a passphrase of more than a dozen words…
My point is, since spaces are allowed in passwrods, use them. A phrase like “Daffy duck never drinks lemonade” will be about one billion harder to guess/bruteforce than any 10 letters/special characters/whatever combination you may choose !
You made a valid point. I agree with you PassPhrase >> Password.
Hi Richard! This is a necessary post nowadays. Passwords should be kept confidential and should never be shared.May God bless you. Thanks a lot.
